Relective Flesh

So, I got a new project I'm finishing up right now. It'll be out in April. Basically I'm making a 12 page zine of collaged images as packaging for my new CD. I'm really into the Idea of taking something old and reshaping it into something new. This project will embody that Idea pretty well, I think. Im'a press up a hundred or so copies and see what happens. Hopefully I can sell 'em all so I can make another one. Here's a little sneak preview.

Pictures from the Neighborhood

     I walked around my neighborhood the other day and took a few photos of some old hand painted signs, among other things most folks would find boring. I love it though, the TL is one big metaphor for deterioration. All over the place, everything is falling apart, from the buildings to the people's spirits. It's kind of beautiful in a strange way. These pictures by no means captured this, but I think it's true. 

Sketchy 5

     The new books that I got have really got me pumped on sketching again. This is a drawing I did from one of Albrecht Durer's paintings "Virgin with the Pear". This dude is so dope. When I first got the book I wasn't really up on who he was, but as I looked at more of his work I recognized a lot of it. Basically he was a German that lived during the 1500s was super influential and is regarded as the greatest artist of the Renaissance in northern Europe. Lots of crazy religious imagery and Dark Age nonsense. Good shit 

Hot Stuff!

     Whilst on the subject of tattoos, My homie Danny Reed from Asheville N.C. comes with nothing but pure heat as well. This is a flick of a piece he did on my homie Dylan's arm, excellent work. Lango @ Space Gallery

     I went by Space Gallery the other night to drop off some flyers for the show on thursday, and was pleasantly surprised when I found this cats paintings hanging on the wall. I don't have any tattoos and am not really into the whole scene, but game recognize game. This dude kills it, and he seemed super cool and humble when I introduced myself to him. I hope these paintings will still be up when we play the show. It would set a nice backdrop for drunken raps. Check out Langos website here.

Sketchy 4

     I was eating at my favorite local burger joint, Pearl's yesterday and saw this old scooter sitting out front. I could never drive one unless I had to, but none the less they're pretty cool looking little pieces of machinery. I had just gotten off work and was ready to lamp, so I posted up for a while and sketched it up. It took a little longer than I anticipated because some kid waiting on his burger kept getting in the way, fucker. 

Collages 1

     This is an older graphic collage I did a year or two back. Out of the six that I did this one was my favorite. I really like the blurry Jesus in the middle. I took that photo of the Jesus statue in Mexico at a really beautiful catholic church, and got rep remanded in Spanish for it. I feel as if this series of works really touched on my philosophical and spiritual beliefs more than anything else I've done. Plus something about the vintage erotica images is so appealing to me. I feel really close to these pictures and hope to actually paint something similar one day when I have more patients and discipline.

     I saw a picture of this guy on The Hundreds website. He was participating in a May Day protest. I thought he looked pretty cool, hella passionate, so I had to sketch him up. One of the owners of The Hundreds, Bobby took the picture. I think he really captured this guys spirit. Check the link to peep the picture.

Pimp C

     We've been bumping the new UGK at The Hundreds lately, so good. God, I wish Pimp C was still around. This is a collaboration Joel (Manface) Stewart and I did the day after we heard that he passed. He rocked the stencil out, and I handled the script. It turned out pretty good, I think. R.I.P Pimp C.

Some old Winston-Salem '08 shit

     Here's a couple flicks I dug up from a show I did with Joel Stewart and Ted Harper last year. We drove up to Winston-Salem from Asheville, threw up the installation piece, and hung the art in one night. The opening had a good turn out and we proceeded to get faded on sizzurp (that purple stuff) and beer, turning the night into a drunken graffiti fueled haze. I sold a couple small pieces to some broad who ended up never paying, what a bitch. Whatever, all and all it was a fun time. Carolina Gentlemen's Club, geah!

     I just found this little old sketch book that I was giving a few years back. I've been doodling in it whenever i get a chance. The paper is really grainy and rough and gives the end results a cool texture. I don't think it translates very well through my scanner, except for the graininess, but that's just due to how old my scanner is. I'll post more as I draw them.

     Here are a couple photos from my last art show at Space Gallery. I swear I'm popular, I just got too drunk and forgot to document the actual opening party. Way to go, genius.

     Here's a sample of my latest series of paintings. I painted them when I lived in N.C. and brought them with me to San Francisco in hopes of making millions of dollars. I haven't been able to paint since I've been here do to our cozy little living space, but I've been getting back into drawing again. I'll post some of those in the future.
