Relective Flesh

So, I got a new project I'm finishing up right now. It'll be out in April. Basically I'm making a 12 page zine of collaged images as packaging for my new CD. I'm really into the Idea of taking something old and reshaping it into something new. This project will embody that Idea pretty well, I think. Im'a press up a hundred or so copies and see what happens. Hopefully I can sell 'em all so I can make another one. Here's a little sneak preview.

Color Chasm

So the homie Linus has got a new band Color Chasm, and they're really good. You May know of Linus for his cold retarded rapping abilities with the Fist Fam and Axerats. Anyhow, they played their first show the other night at our house, and they killed shit! Everyone in attendance agreed. I recorded one of their songs on my camera and the sound quality is okay, but it'll give you an idea of their sound. Enjoy.

Bloods and Crips: Made In America

Alright folks, this is some serious shit. You have to watch this documentary, it is the realest thing I've seen in a long time. It's a history of the infamous Bloods and Crips gang culture in Los Angeles, and is directed by Stacy Peralta who also did the "Dogtown Z-Boys" and "Riding Giants" films. We all know things are messed up down there in south central, but this is a truly moving and insightful film. Please click the link to watch the whole film HERE, or go watch it in the theatre asap. The trailer alone made me tear up. It's incredibly sad the reality these people are forced to live. In my opinion every american needs to see this film. This shit has been swept under the rug for too long, but I digress.

Roots Music-Charlie Patton "Rattlesnake blues"

If you don't know your roots music, you better get to learnin'. This shit is the basis of all modern rock music, and it blows 95% of it out of the water. I decided to put a few videos of some of the greats up, accompanied by illustrations drawn by Robert Crumb (now that dude knew about some music). Anyhow, there is so much soul and beauty in this music it's amazing, I can't get enough. You gotta love this shit.

Roots Music-Mississippi John Hurt "You Got to Walk That Lonesome Valley"

Roots Music-Skip James "Devil Got My Women"

Roots Music-Sun House "Death Letter Blues"

Gotta Love a Broad on a Bike.

I wish riding a bike did this for me, except I'd probably just get in a wreck....erect? All it does is tire me out and make my taint hurt.

Random Axe of Kindness

Speaking of dope rappers I just found out about this. Apparently Sean price, Guilty Simpson, and Black Milk have got an album coming out under the moniker Random Axe. I guess this is old news but whatever, it should be tight. Black milk has got some fire beats, he's pretty fresh with the lyrics too. I remember playing a show with him in Chapel Hill, N.C. right after his first album dropped and being really impressed. All in all I think this will be a solid project and I will definitely be scooping it when it hits the shelves, whenever that is.

That Sharp Tongue of Yours is Gonna Cut Your Own Throat

Merk's back to the left coast after a brief hiatus. I met up with him and the crew in the Richmond for a drink and ended up riding my bike home at 4:30 in the morning to an empty bed. Bummer. Everyone better be on their guard, no one is safe from the sarcastic wrath. Let the quick wit, and snaps commence.

We on a Mission.... in the Mission

So, last night I got off work and headed over to the Philo's crib to get some flicks of Ironfist workin' on a new song. It's been a hot minute since they have, so I wanted to document it. We chilled for a bit, and instead listened to old Fist Family songs. Philo was bumpin' shit I had even forgotten recording, super cutty tracks. After that we headed to some hipster party to link up with Dorian, but that shit was just goofy and filled with youngsters. I saw at least seven girls with that stupid shave half of your head haircut and was pretty over it. The house was super tight though and they had it set up like a gallery of sorts with art hanging all around. Pretty cool. After the party Philo and I met up with Linus and headed back to the lab for some late night midi sessions. I shouldn't drink and try to program drums though, bad combo, but it was still fun.
